Recently Diagnosed Epilepsy – Fit To Work In Production?
A 50-year old woman, working for a food production company in a manual handling role, was referred to us for a fitness to work assessment. She had previously been diagnosed with epilepsy, and had recently experienced problems with her vision as well as some seizures.
She was due to go on annual leave and the company advised her not to return to work until the assessment was performed following her leave. She attended an appointment with our OHP and a full examination was carried out. On examination, the doctor found a shadow behind her eye. She was immediately deemed unfit for work and referred for a neurological appointment at hospital, for an urgent assessment of a possible tumour.
