With 62 multiplex cinemas nationwide, 2,500 employees and ambitious expansion plans, Vue Entertainments takes its employee commitments very seriously.

So when they asked Occupational Medicals to help them deal with long-term sickness absence issues, our national network of occupational health physicians was a major benefit.

Erin Walsh, employee relations manager at Vue Entertainment, explains: “Having employees across the country means that we need occupational health doctors in those locations. It doesn’t make sense to send a York employee to be assessed by a doctor in London, for instance. If an employee is facing long-term sickness absence, then we need to understand their problems, whether and when they are sufficiently fit to return to work, and the best rehabilitation plans to help them do so.”

She continues: “We started working with Occupational Medicals 18 months ago and our long-term sickness absence problems are much reduced. The doctors’ reports help us to resolve issues faster, more confidently yet with less risk. We are not making ‘off the cuff’ decisions, but decisions that are based on real medical facts. Of course, most of our employees are unaware of this service as they have had no cause to use it, but our managers are appreciating its value more and more.”
